Topic: Constructability in Concrete (Part 2)

The new era of Construction Technology-  VDC;  Virtual Design and Construction

The WA ACI Chapter presents our 2nd presentation in our series of  "Constructability in Concrete"

The 700 Dexter project is a new twin tower, 540,000 sq. ft, 15 story project with new office and mixed use space in South Lake Union. SkB Architects started its first ambitious use of innovative strategy by grounding the building to its historical South lake Union roots and designed 2 towers to help scale the building into the surrounding community.

Technology is changing construction on a rapid basis and Turner construction is employing a whole building innovative approach by using VDC; Virtual Design & Construction. Properly applied, these new modeling and coordination tools can have a direct and positive effect of project productivity, quality, and safety.  From waterproofing, sequencing, coordination, planning and integration, VDC is a critical component to Turner Construction teams and the success of the project.

From foundation to topping out......VDC modeling is a powerful tool that is being used to find and solve problems.

Tonight's presentation will focus on demonstrating the many ways this new whole project approach VDC (also known as BIM- Building Information Modeling) will support Turner's self performing concrete construction work. The approach and tools are detailed to be specific to 700 Dexter and will be leading edge technology in Seattle.

Presented by:

Kelby McCorkle; Concrete Engineer;  Turner Construction.  Kelby is in charge of managing the concrete scope of 700 Dexter.

Sean Beatty; Sr. VDC Project Manager;  Turner Construction.  Sean leads the integration for VDC including the concrete support for the project.

Please join usto learn about the introduction, overview and how Turner Construction is implementing this new tool to build a better project.
