WHO SHOULD ATTEND:

NRMCA Pervious Concrete Certification is recommended for anyone that will be actively supervising, is forman to, or is physically placing pervious concrete, as a Professional Concrete Finisher. As Pervious Concrete is a new and different specialty concrete product, it is strongly recommended that a sufficient number of crew members are certified to meet NRMCA Pervious Concrete “Installer” status. Number of crew members certified should be consistent with the most current version of ACI Committee Report: 522.1-08; Specification for Pervious Concrete and revised NRMCA Guidelines (Revised September 2007)

The Contractor should evaluate the size of Pervious Concrete projects they will be involved in and have a sufficient number of crew members certified as Pervious Concrete “Installers”. Currently, ACI 522.1-08 Technical document requires THREE crew members be NRMCA Pervious “Installer” Certified during placements, or one  Pervious Concrete Craftsman be present. Crew sizes may differ for small placements such as sidewalks, trails, and single residential driveways and up to 5-8 crew members needed for larger projects such as parking lots, residential streets. Additional crews may need to be certified if placing multiple Pervious Concrete projects at any given time. “Qualified Contractor” status may only be attributed to those Contractors that actually have sufficient crew members certified. One or two employees may not qualify for as a “Qualified Contractor.”

It is important to support the proper and SUCCESSFUL placement of Pervious Concrete to advance the numerous potential markets for Pervious Concrete. The concrete construction industry should be dedicated to upgrade its quality standards with NRMCA & ACI National Certifications. Finishers with national certifications will have a local advantage as specifications requiring these certifications programs continue to develop. This would apply to commercial and residential construction, in-house finishing crews, individual finishers, or anyone interested in increasing their knowledge and skills of concrete technology as it relates to Finishing Concrete slabs. ACI Flatwork Finisher Certification is becoming more widely specified as a prequalification to concrete slab placements.
