WA ACI Chapter Meeting

Topic: I-90 Snoqualmie Pass Project

Constructed in 2 phases, this $249M widens 1-90 two to three lanes in each direction and constructs twin 1,200-foot-long bridges rising over avalanche chutes accommodating 100-year avalanche events to virtually eliminate road closures due to avalanche and snow removal.  Material movement includes blasting 400,000 cu. yds. of rock, 116,000 tons of base course, 31,000 cu. Yds. of PCC, and 38,000 tons of hot mix asphalt.

Phase 1C widens 2.5 miles from 4 to 6 lanes with a new lane in each direction, builds wildlife crossings, straightens the roadway and adds a new chain-up area. The wildlife crossing will be located in the historic migration path to Keechelus Lake and will accommodate elk, deer, and black bear—while significantly decreasing wildlife collisions.

Please join us for tonight’s presentation of this very visible  project representing a major upgrade to the Snoqualmie pass system.  Complex concreting scopes in all seasons over multiple traffic phases while creating a unique passage way for wildlife.

This is not an ordinary highway rebuild project!
